Landslide

Hillsides after heavy rain

Before

  • Living near a slope or retaining wall? Watch for new cracks in walls or ground, tilting trees or poles, and muddy water seeping from the hill.
  • Report signs to the local council. Highland Towers and Batang Kali both began as warning signs.

During

  • Rumbling, cracking or a sudden change in stream water: leave immediately.
  • Move sideways, out of the slide’s path, not straight downhill.

After

  • Stay away. More slides often follow the first.
  • Report trapped people to 999; don’t dig on an unstable slope yourself.

GO DEEPER.
